NSHA Coronavirus Communication #1
Dear Parents and Faculty,
As you may be aware, a faculty member at Yeshiva Har Torah who also attends the Young Israel of West Hempstead recently tested positive for Coronavirus. We send our wishes for a full and speedy recovery to this individual.
Over the course of the last few hours, we have spoken with various health agencies and have consulted with the New York State Department of Health. Given the crossover between faculty, siblings and students of Yeshiva Har Torah, the affected communities and North Shore Hebrew Academy Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle and High Schools (Grades Toddler through Twelve) we have decided that we will close all divisions for the remainder of this week, from March 11th through 13th. We expect to reopen on Monday, March 16th. Since the situation remains fluid, we will update you if anything changes.
The decision to close school has been made in an abundance of caution and following our consultation with the New York State Department of Health. As of the time of this communication, we have not received any indication of cases of Coronavirus within our school. We have not been advised by any authorities that any of our students or faculty members must self quarantine.
Please review the information described here by the New York State Department of Health so you understand the symptoms and preventative measures we can each take. If you or your child exhibits symptoms of Coronavirus such as a cough, fever of over 100.4F or trouble breathing, contact a healthcare provider. If you or someone in your family has been in contact with an individual who tested positive for Coronavirus or tests positive for Coronavirus please alert Rabbi Kobrin and Dr. Vitow immediately. This will enable us to provide accurate information to the New York State Department of Health and obtain the best advice to protect each and every student, parent, faculty member and administrator.
All of our campuses will be professionally cleaned over the next few days. Plans for remote learning programs will be sent by each division of our school separately on Wednesday, March 11th.
We urge you to convey this news calmly to your children. Focus on the precautionary nature of the closure. Children of all ages sense when their trusted adults exhibit anxiety.
We commit to remaining in communication with you throughout the week and thank you for your continued partnership and cooperation.
