Semifinalists in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Competition
Over 1.5 million students in 22,000 high schools enter the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the PSAT in October of their junior year. For New York State, students need a minimum score of 218 to qualify for Semifinalist status.

Commended Scholars in the 2010 National Merit Program
Commended Scholars are recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program for their high performance on the 2008 PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) taken last October.
