NSHA HS Boys & Girls Athletic Programs

Athletics is a very integral part of our school.  We have over eighteen teams that students can choose to try out for, including basketball, hockey, soccer, volleyball, bowling, tennis, baseball and wrestling.  Over the last three years, North Shore athletics have produced many Metropolitan Yeshiva High School Athletic League (MYHSAL) championships in tennis, soccer, volleyball, and this year for the first time North Shore brought home our first basketball championship.  Students love our sports program as it enhances friendships and gives the opportunity to develop great relationship with coaches.  Our coaches are professional in their sports and great role models for the kids.

Very important for all those who intend to tryout for sports teams and programs:

Please scroll down to open and print the letter and form below. These forms are mandatory and must be handed in prior to

trying out for ANY sports-related activity.

NSHAHS MID-SEASON SPORT REPORT & TRY OUT SCHEDULE:

VARSITY BOYS BASKETBALL:
The varsity basketball team is having a very respectable season. The boys have been competitive in almost every game led by junior Michael Tsor who is one of the league’s leading scorers. Junior Ethan Abizadeh runs the point and Nathan Rabanipour has been very productive with his heart and effort. The boys recently suffered a tough loss to conference leader DRS, cutting the score to just four points with two minutes to go after trailing by 15 points at one point. The stars then hosted the 7-1 Rambam Ravens and won a very close game 48-47 upsetting the second place team in the Eastern conference. The boys are now back at 4-4 and are fighting hard to make the playoffs.

JV BOYS BASKETBALL:
This very talented group has been up and down and is now off to a 3-3 start. The boys are coming off a 3 point loss to DRS and a blowout victory vs Rambam. Jack Ruben is running the point and is doing a fine job. Simon Goldstein is one of the league’s leading scorers as his fast break play is second to none. Another emerging star is freshmen Steven Levian who is growing into one of the league’s most dangerous players. His physical presence makes him a very dangerous weapon for opponents to deal with. The boys are still gearing up for a successful end of the regular season followed by a strong playoff run.

VARSITY GIRLS BASKETBALL:
This senior laden talented group have come back in great fashion getting 3 wins in a row and have managed to crawl back to the 500 mark at 3-3. The girls are being led by senior center Mahlia Leventhal, guard Rachel Aharanoff and by some great shooting by Liz Zborowski. They are playing hard and are now back and fighting to win their conference which is shaping up to being a very tight race.

GIRLS JV BASKETBALL:
NSHAHS biggest sports story of the year so far has been the incredible play of this very athletic and fast team. The girls were a perfect 6-0 until they were finally defeated by an excellent HAFTR team bringing our record to 6-1 and competing with HAFTR for first place in our conference. The girls continue to practice hard and are improving dramatically weekly. Ariella Hajibai and Lielle Waldman lead the scoring for this potent offense and Sonia Leventhal continues to contribute to the offense as well. Freshmen Rebecca Schatz is turning into one of the leagues finest point guards as her poise and lack of committing turnovers is something for even varsity players to envy.

VARSITY BOYS HOCKEY: Led by goalie Ben Baruch the boys are playing incredibly well right now and are making a real strong run at making the league playoffs. Junior captain Ben Pagovich and senior James Modlin are playing great defense and Oscar Kule has provided an excellent offensive spark to help lead this fun filled no quit team. The Stars have won 4 games in a row despite the absence of top scorer Aryeh Vilinsky for some of those games. The boys have so much heart and with their great hustle are turning into one of the league’s top home teams.

JV BOYS HOCKEY:
The boys are struggling right now but are fighting hard to make the playoffs. Freshman all-star Charles Grezses suffered a devastating injury, which really hurt the team. (Hopefully Charles will return towards the end of the season, and be healthy for the playoffs).) The boys are in a real tussle with a few teams in their conference for the last spot in the playoffs. The boys just had a huge 2-1 victory over HANC to move their record back to 3-4. Andrew Sender is playing excellent defense along with Jack Hadar, and Captain Matan Atlas is leading the offense. New additions, Brett Rosenblatt and Jack Myers are giving the team an extra boost.

VARSITY GIRLS VOLLEYBALL:
The girls are struggling to get wins but not due to a lack of effort. After graduating a lot of excellent seniors last year we knew things would be tough. The girls are led by Junior Caitlin Kohanim, and are getting some good play from Juniors Alex Hassan, and junior transfer Ofir Shemesh, and some excellent serving from junior transfer Elizabeth Wortman. The girls are led by many juniors and improving weekly, and hopefully will mold into a stellar group for the future.

JV GIRLS VOLLEYBALL:
Off to a sluggish slow start the girls are playing hard and enjoy playing very much. The girls are excited about being part of the team and with the addition of some JV girl basketball players the future shows a lot of promise. Killer serves by Abby Aranbaev and great play by Rebecca Farca are helping lead the way. The girls are still looking for their first win of the season but we are on the road do doing so.

WRESTLING:
Mr. Muir has the wrestling program working very hard a few times a week. This 30 man squad has a very busy 2 months coming up with over 8 matches scheduled. The team is extremely young with only 4 seniors returning. In the team’s first match of the season Jordan Oshry, David Malul and Joe Levy won their matches. This promises to be one of the NSHAHS most exciting seasons of wrestling.
